Crew Requirements & Training

The Albatross is a large, complex airplane and requires a qualified crew to be safely operated. The crew requirements and associated training are described below. SeaPlane Ops can provide complete crew training to meet your needs as well as contract crewmembers to fill needed positions

  • Basic Crew Requirements
    • Minimum Flight Crew: 2
      • PIC - Must be type rated and current (See recurrent training below)(FAR - 61.
        • PPE within past 12 months
        • 3 Land T/O & Landings & 3 Water T/O & Landings in past 90 days in Category & Class
      • SIC - Must be trained to SIC standards and current (FAR - 61.
        • 3 Land T/O & Landings & 3 Water T/O & Landings in past 90 days
    • Minimum Recommended Flight Crew for water operations: 3
      • PIC & SIC as above
      • Crew Chief - Trained or briefed in
        • Beaching
        • Mooring
        • Basic aircraft systems
        • Safety
        • Crew Coordination
    • Minimum Recommended Flight Crew for long range operations: 3/4
      • PIC & SIC as above

      • Mechanic

Prerequisites for the Type Rating Course
  • Private, Commercial or ATP Certificate
  • Multi-engine Land Rating
  • Single-engine Sea Rating
  • Current Medical
    • Third Class for ALL Ratings (FAR 61.39)

    • Pass the required practical test in accordance with the ATP/Commercial or Private & Type Rating PTS

2 Optional for "VFR Only" Rating
However - Applicant "must hold or concurrently obtain an instrument rating that is
appropriate to the aircraft category, class, or type rating sought" FAR 61.63(d)(1)
